NYC: Six People Sickened By Salmonella From Tainted Tomatoes

tomatoes1.jpgAccording to a WNBC breaking news report, six new illness connected to tainted tomatoes have been confirmed in New York City, health officials said.

The New York City Health Department said Wednesday that seven people in the area have been sickened by salmonella since a nationwide outbreak connected to raw tomatoes as was reported this month HERE on YWN.

Some 277 people in nearly 30 states have been stricken with the illness – and the source of the outbreak is still unclear.

The Food and Drug Administration has advised people to avoid certain plum, Roma, round tomatoes and products containing them.

Some tomato types — including grape, cherry and on-the-vine tomatoes — remain safe to eat. Tomatoes grown at home are also safe.

Many area restaurants and food services have stopped serving the potentially tainted tomatoes.

Did they ever think of checking illegal aliens as the possible source of salmonella?

#1, Flatbush Bubby: I quote from ABC News. “We may never know where these tomatoes came from…FDA has no good system for tracking all of our produce.”
