The post seems to make an assumption that whatever we had back in Eastern Europe was somehow better than what we have in the USA today. I emphatically disagree.
children need a break from studying, workers need a break from working. We are not machines.
If you want to gripe about something which would be a valid argument, I would argue that adopting that European model of vacations over the summer, where schools are only closed for four weeks, would be a much better idea.
